From day one, DECA has always been about the people and the supportive network which they form. Being a part of this incredible team, I have seen the impact of how being involved can change you outlook on campus life and open opportunities beyond what you could imagine. Moving into the 2018-2019 year, I could not be more excited to continue to be a part of DECA UTSC and its growing team. My goal is to ensure that all members of DECA UTSC, and the UTSC community in general, are given every opportunity to improve professionally and personally, whether it be through case competition preparations or communication skills.
If travelling could be a hobby, it would be at the top of my list because I love language and culture, adventures and exotic foods. But, in general, I have a passion for being involved, whether that be in sports, arts or clubs and I am always up to try something new.
I want DECA to be like FIFA season in an all Portuguese/Italian elementary school, except you don't need to have a fohawk or wear jerseys to represent your team. All joking aside there is no specific goal set in my mind for DECA, but what I do have are 3 things; a passion for this team, an incredibly deep seductive (to myself) morning voice, and a parrot. What I hope for is to pour my passion out so that it may not only flow through the achievements we as a team accomplish, but to inspire the management community that clubs aren't all that bad.
I was specifically asked to make this Facebook appropriate - so ahem. A fun fact about me is that I am a huge fan of simulation games and other immersive games; 300+ hours in Truck simulator, Train Simulator, Microsoft Flight Sim, X-Plane, Project Cars, and I guess Starcitizen now. I enjoy simulations because I create my own narrative, and let my imagination take over. Another interesting fact is that I'm a huge fan of pet birds - parrots in particular. I am currently father to a 5 month Caique named Keele. He poops on my shoulder every 20 minutes, but I'd have it no other way.
Over the past year I have fallen in love with DECA and moving into the future I am looking to foster a club atmosphere that enables students to grow professionally, and personally. My goal is to ensure that every student who decides to join DECA is given the opportunity to develop and refine meaningful skills through our training sessions and larger events. I also hope that DECA can be an outlet for improved campus life, and a source of enjoyment for all who partake in it.
I am an avid sports fan, I follow almost every sport, but my favourites are hockey, football and basketball. I love music, namely RnB and Hip Hop, but if you play ABBA I would also be very happy. I'm a very outgoing person and am always looking to improve. If you ever want to speak to me I would love to get to know new people!!!
This year I'm looking forward to rebrand DECA UTSC. I want to change the way people look at DECA UTSC, by attributing the club to a more student-friendly and family-like image and change the way DECA UTSC looks, by working towards creating a new logo and aesthetic across social media platforms!
In my spare time I enjoy reading fantasy novels, swimming and of course shopping! A fun fact about me is that I was born on Friday the 13th!
For DECA to be a management club that the members within it would be able to obtain as much skills relevant for their professional development as they can while having the best time of their university career.
I'm from Malaysia, interested in finance, data analytics, literature, and I sometimes do creative coding for fun. I enjoy outdoor activities e.g. hiking and kayaking; I was a kayaking coach in high school.
I want to help our members recognize the endless amount of opportunities that DECA can provide them with. This year, I hope to see more delegates representing DECA UTSC and more medalists at Provincials.
I have a collection of all my DECA memories from my DECA pins to Provincials/ICDC swag, name tags and hotel key cards stored in a green, polka-dotted box.
Meet new people and have a lit time :)
I'm colourblind (grass looks orange sometimes)
Ever since I came to Canada for a second time back in 2015, I'd always heard about DECA but had no clue as to what it really was. This was especially due to the fact I'd never taken a business course throughout my high school term due to the aspirations of my parents of me being a doctor (your typical brown household story). During my first year of university, I didn't join any clubs, but I wanted to change that. Out of all the clubs, I saw DECA being the most prominent. With their team boothing everyday with such passion, I knew DECA was a team for which I perceived the most passion.
Although with a high passion, my goal for DECA is multipurpose. DECA is known internationally, and I want the club to achieve its full potential. My job is to make sure the club reaches that pinnacle of success with whatever is in my capabilities. This means securing sponsors, judges, speakers, and whatever else the club might need to make it more successful than ever before.
Secondly, I plan on gaining valuable experiences out of the club. Yes, networking is a big part of it, but for me, skills such as time management, coordination, communication, all while maintaining a healthy lifestyle has a high importance. Being capable of doing participating in all the activites and balaning work and enjoyment is what develops a person. And I'm really looking forward to developing myself through DECA.
Lastly, the greatest thing about university and clubs (other than the degree) are the meaningful relationship we develop throughout the span of our college days. With a wonderful team alongside me including the lovely Presidents, VP's, Directors, and soon to be Associates, I hope not just to develop friendships, but a family. And the best thing is, DECA extends this love and compassion to all the members, participants, and everyone else!
Perhaps one of the hardest questions I've been constantly asked about are my hobbies. Every time I've been asked, somehow it gets harder and harder to answer. So let me try and break it down:
Sports: Cricket, soccer, rugby, wrestling, badminton, and quite a couple more. Gaming: Call of Duty, FIFA, Battlefield, Rainbow 6, and once again, quite a couple more. Hobbies: I love photography, singing, debating, speeches, and Wonderland <3. Hit me up if you'd like to get some pictures for Instagram. Food: Yes, I have a whole section just for food. I love BUTTER CHICKEN (I'm brown and you should expect nothing less). Aside from that, pizza, burgers, poutine, and Nasir's hot dogs are regarded very highly on my list.
I'm not really sure this is a "fun" fact, but I'm almost 6'2". Probably among the tallest guys you'll see on campus. I'm also super outgoing, so don't mind me if you witness my very self doing embarrassing things in public.
I'll finish off on perhaps the most embarrassing note for one's self. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SWIM, but that doesn't make a lesser of a person right? I hope not 😭 (I prefer to waddle in the water anyways).
Build engaging and sustainable corporate partnerships that support a growing organization. Establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sector, as well as other key communities, that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of DECA and the university.
Working out, basketball, soccer, computing, Sudoku, going out with friends
DECA is all about opportunity and finding ways to better yourself both personally and professionally. Therefore, my goal is to ensure that everyone gets to enjoy many meaningful experiences within their time here in DECA UTSC. I am also hoping to encourage many new faces to enter our DECA family!
I am a passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan and enjoy playing card games like Magic: the Gathering. In addition, I enjoy cooking, reading manga, and watching history documentaries.
I am incredibly proud to be a part of the DECA family and my main goal for this year is to assist our club in becoming even bigger through the means of marketing. Fortunately, our marketing team is absolutely incredible and I am sure that together we will achieve amazing things!
When I was a kid I had a pet bear at home... No, I’m not joking. Want to know how and why? Join DECA and I’ll tell you :)
Re-brand DECA's image that represents the amazing family and professional platform this club is for students to harness their skills and confidence!
I have written and passed 2 exams on the same day with 2.5 h of sleep. After all, sleep is for the weak.
I like to read the ending of books first, so I know what I am in for.
Deca is an amazing club and I wish to be able to increase membership so everyone else can enjoy it as well!
I was born on Thanksgiving
Hobbies and Interests:
I really love watching documentaries and crime shows
My goal for Deca is to provide a platform where students will be given the opportunity to build upon existing and relevant skills which will aid them in facing challenges in the real business world
I love outdoor sports and being physically active. Some of my favourite sports are flag football and rugby!
I am also an animal lover, and my black lab just turned 8 years old!
For myself, I want to become a better leader by leading my associates through tasks that they have to complete. For general members, I want them to take in as much valuable information as they can through our events, while having fun and enjoying their time with DECA!
I enjoy playing sports and hanging out with friends
To have 80% of our members place top 4 for at least one of their cases
Swimming, snowboarding, history, philosophy
My goal is to be an effective trainer for all of those who are involved in DECA. Fostering a passion for evoking change in the world of business while teaching about DECA, vocabulary and business concepts is what I want to achieve. If I can have a lasting impact regarding these topics with even one student, that would be my ultimate goal.
I did rowing in high school; definitely a super underrated, physically taxing form of exercise.
